OMG!

After watching the DVD last night, where they mentioned some of the fiction that had been written about the French Foreign Legion, I went looking for Beau Geste online, figuring that it had to be in the public domain.

Google Books had it, but I'm not excited about reading it on the computer; I'd rather have a copy that I can convert for use in my PDA or the Sony PRS 700 Ereader.

Then, I found it in another archive online at www.archive.org which I'd never heard of before. Apparently, it's connected to several libraries in the US and Canada.

OK, so that was fine, but looking a little more deeply at this archive, I found that they have stored over 10K texts in Yiddish...apparently something on the order of half all the published works in that language! I'm astonished! Now, I just have to learn the language...it's on my list of things to do.

Beau Geste is a fun read. I'll have to get a copy of Beau Sabreur at some point soon.

I guess I just never got around to it. I'm pretty sure that I could have found it at the library, but since it was in the public domain, I just found it online for future perusal.

I want to learn Yiddish as well, its on my bucket list. Only problem- my hebrew SUCKS I just don't 'get" it. I'm hoping Yiddish being germanic will be easier to learn because english is germanic and might be more familiar. I"m hoping.... :P

Well, it's really something of a combination of the two, with flavorings of Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, and other odds and ends. Sort of like a linguistic sausage.
