With forestcats out last evening at her quilt club meeting, once I managed to get home from work, I watched a variety of material, including a documentary on Chuck Jones, a disc of Lone Wolf and Cub, and finally, the really forgettable movie, The Saint. Not the best stuff I've ever watched, honestly.

The Kilmer version was apparently not intended by Paramount upper management to be faithful to the original novels and short stories, regardless of what the first script writer might have had in mind at their end of the process. They just wanted the name recognition.

I can't believe they even tried to get away with not using the stick-figure logo!

But they did! Right at the very end. The female lead gave it to him as a gift, and he wore it to her lecture...

The only other clue that any scriptwriter who worked on that movie had read any of the novels? That quote on Dr. Russell's computer screen. "...and give light to them that sit in darkness...", yes?

(Or some variant in the phrasing, which I hope will be brought more correctly to mind...?)

Straight out of The Last Hero, that was. Norman Kent's premonitory moment in that story...

In any case, I was unimpressed, but not sufficiently bored with it to just stop it and give up, like I did with that Albert Brooks film that I dumped over the weekend...

This ain't no party, this ain't no disco...
