Historically, I've really liked reading Tom Clancy's novels, though my favorite was Red Storm Rising, and that was his second one of many. However, the various novels set in his "world" but written by other people I've avoided as really inferior. I have asked my friend, Patrick Larkin, who is an author who's written techno-thrillers himself, in the past, what happened to Clancy, because it had been so long since he'd written anything, earlier this year, but Pat had no idea.

Recently, a new Clancy novel was released, and I picked it up immediately, but was dismayed to see that it (Dead or Alive) has "with Grant Blackwood" under Clancy's name. I knew that I was going to be hypercritical from the start.

In the end, I read 75/950 pages, and then gave up. This, even if primarily written by Clancy, is an inferior piece of work that desperately needed more editing, and fell way short in the characterizations. I just couldn't see wasting any more time with it, what with the many more books I have to read on hand.
