Since forestcats went to a quilt guild meeting, last night, I managed to watch a couple of things in which I suspect she lacks interest.
First was Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart at the River Styx. Once again, a movie, not TV show, and its production values were much better. The combat sequences were gore-covered. The story includes recognizable events from the manga.
Next, I watched Syriana. It's disjoint, and confusing. Even when it culminates, it really doesn't make all that much sense. In the end, it's a political diatribe, and not much else.
Finally, I watched another episode of Farscape (season one, number three) and I'm still not all that impressed. However, I will continue to run with it for the time being.
I am curious about Farscape. I have heard many mixed reviews. I've thought about renting the series, or at least season one. What is it that is unappealing about the show?
I don't find the protagonist/human all that ... hmm, I can't think of the word.
He's not frightened enough. He's too flippant. He's not curious enough. He knows he doesn't know much about the world he's in, but we don't see him trying to learn about it. He repairs one of their robots, sort of, without having the slightest idea what he's doing. He's the hero amongst vagabonds/criminals, but in many ways they are all more heroic and noble than he is. He's portrayed in the initial episode as the son of an astronaut, and it seemed like his father didn't really understand him, which is a plot device that hits you in the head like a club...no subtlety there.
OTOH, the aliens are interesting. I almost wish that they'd spend less time with the human and more with the aliens aboard the ship, like Pilot.
And that's the dichotomy that has kept me from dumping it again.
I had heard that it got better after season 1 in regards to the other characters. My Dad said the human wasn't believable, but the aliens made it worth watching. Perhaps I will check it out.
Thank you. That was very helpful.
Apparently your father and I agree. Nice to know.

Crackers Don't Matter that was the episode for me where John stopped being annoying. The aliens really do make the show, though.
And when is that? Season four?
