This is always a warning of impending alarms and excursions.
It seems that a friend's yard had become a nursery for a cat and her six kittens. There's always a hankering on the part of forestcats to socialize these strays so that they can be adopted out, and lead a longer, healthier life than they would have done in the street. So, she captured the kittens, and brought them all home.
Six. Four male, two female. And she got them at the perfect socialization age; they're very responsive to humans presently, and they're learning to enjoy and trust our touch.
But ... six?
We need to train 'em up, and get 'em out!
Anyone want a sweet little kitten?
Our own cats are reacting with disdain or even outright hostility. I can't imagine why...
