I'm very disappointed with CostCo.

Once upon a time, their outside cafe would serve a Hebrew National hot dog and a drink for a buck and a half, which I thought was a pretty good price for a hot dog that I thought tasted pretty good.

Now, they've dumped Hebrew National and put in their own brand.

Doesn't taste very good. For that matter, they've changed the buns...too small, and taste stale.

Your cafe loses a customer in me, CostCo. Too bad.

Don't know about their little snack bar, but for a while at least up here they'd even stopped selling Hebrew National hot dogs in the warehouse. HN bulk packs were back in the meat case on our last few trips, so I hope your location is behind the curve not in front...

Apparently, they were forced to restock Hebrew National due to widespread complaints.

Hebrew National is the *only* hot dog I would eat. That was a dumb move on their part.

Don't know about the hot dog, but their cheese pizza is really good, the cheese & sauce is vegetarian-friendly & is about 1,000 calories.

If you're in the area where there's a Ralphs, check it out to see if they have Nathan at 99 cents each. My neighborhood Ralphs was offering 2 for 99 cents, if you bought a 20oz coke at the same time.

For those not in the know, Nathans is the other kosher beef hot dog.

Funny. I looked at the Nathan's hot dogs that Costco sold in the packs, and there wasn't a single kosher insignia.

Guess I need to look better. I do know that Nathans is all beef.

I've checked into it. They aren't kosher. I think they're used as Chicago dogs, though. COuld be wrong.

Now, Sinai 48 is another truly kosher hot dog. FYI.

Actually Hebrew National isn't kosher at all. It's kosher "style". I know that when I was orthodox, we wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole!

I've checked before, and there is one of the kosher markings on the hot dogs. If you were Orthodox, though, it might not have been marked with the marking that your rabbi accepted.

No, I remember very clearly that there were no kashrut markings on Hebrew National at all.

Remember that this was like, thirty years ago, however!

I just served 21 Hebrew National hot dogs to our religious group, and every package had a triangle with a K in it. Last I heard, that was a Kosher indicator, not "kosher-style".

Are you sure you're not thinking of Nathan's?

Aha! I thought something was different about their dogs when we went a month or so ago. Wonder why they went that route.

I don't much care for hot dogs, but I actually like Hebrew National hot dogs. Bad move on their part.

Were I come from it's Hebrew National, Nathans, house brand, then Oscar Mayers. Last, but certainly not least, some off brand on sale. :)

I've never been fond of Nathan's, and house brand only when it was something exotic, like duck/bacon sausage.

I'm sure it's motivated by profit, though I always thought that the hot dog was a loss leader; brings folks in to buy who might not otherwise have come.

heheh...I guess that Cosco had to "answer to a higher authority" and bring Hebrew National back huh.
