Fireflies. Still seeing them. I was almost more jazzed about the fireflies than I was about the fireworks.

Our friends live just a couple of blocks from Northwestern's football stadium. I can't imagine what that does for parking, several times a year.

They're also just a few blocks from the Baha'i Temple. This fact brings me head on into coping with the truth that I don't know much of anything about the Baha'i faith. I've been on the grounds of the Temple in Haifa, Israel, in 1972, and still haven't spent any effort on learning about this. I'm embarrassed...

I had a Baha'i English teacher in High School. (Not that he talked about it much. It came out in one of the "class & teacher open discussions" that weren't really learning, but were one of the things I liked most about school). He remains one of my favourite teachers of English (including a half dozen profs who all had a very distinct and memorable character).

But despite having a low level of fascination with it, the wiki entry still told me more than I'd ever found on it previously.

Absolutely. I grew up in Wisconsin, and I don't remember them there at all; I have to wonder if it was too far north, or if their range has been increasing in the last fifty years?

Funny you mention this...My first three years at NU I literally don't recall seeing fireflies at all, but then my Senior year, they were everywhere...it was really strange.

Curiouser and curiouser. Maybe it was a change in the use of DDT or some such item?

This ain't no party, this ain't no disco...
