Over the last week or so, I watched my way through ST:V season three, and into season four; I so wish it were better...

Seasons 4-6 are notably better than the rest, but season seven is a chore. Not as bad as the first three, just kind of aimless and slogging. Had they been allowed to carve a true arc with the Borg plot (this was actively inhibited) it could have worked well, but instead you get a bunch of mediocre episodes of the week and an OK finale.

Voyager is never as good as DS9 or even TNG at its best, but there are occasional gems.

Well, with 4 ahead, I'll try to enjoy it all.

Well, "better" is still relative, but the completist in me wanted to finish it.

The only ep of ST: V that really stands out in my mind -- and I was only able to watch it intermittently thanks to the missus' proscription against watching any version of ST (which she only lifted a year or so ago) -- was the one where two characters were plummeting down a crevasse, cliff-face, whatever; had in fact fallen for what looked to be several thousand feet, when they were picked up by transporter beam, and rematerialized aboard ship with a slight stamping of their feet and a gasp of relief.

There should have been a gawdalmighty SPLAT and a three-day cleansing and disinfecting of that transporter room, not a bunny hop and a happy sigh.

Way to shatter my faith in the science of Star Trek, people.

You sure that wasn't the latest Star Trek movie?

Pretty sure, 'cause I think Seven of Nine was in the scene.

That's not the first time it's been done. Actually, it's pretty easy to imagine that the transporter totally kills inertia; you're destroying the source and reconstructing it elsewhere. What drives me nuts is in Star Trek V when Spock catches Kirk falling off of El Capitan.
