I was late to services, last night, but I did make it. It was pleasant; folks were in good moods, and we all made much of young miss Shelby who had received an academic award unexpectedly (to her) that morning. Also, one of the twins was back from college. Altogether a nice time.

OTOH, at work I had to sign a death certificate...a couple of days back, a man with severe lung issues, in the presence of some of his kids asked me to put him on a morphine drip and just keep him comfortable. He was in his right mind, and the children concurred, so I did, and then the next day, we stopped every other treatment that wasn't comfort related. When I saw him two days ago, he was surrounded by his children and their spouses, and everyone seemed to be having a good time. As I had told them, he might survive twenty minutes or twenty days, though the latter was unlikely. In the end, it was more like 30 hours, but in the meantime he could hold court, and everyone had a chance to be there. I'm not happy that he's passed on, but I think that he and his family could approve the manner of his exit. *Sigh*.

And now for the weekend...

You gave him that ability to say goodbye and to die the way he wanted.
That is a good and noble thing.
