I spent much of last evening watching/listening to the videos for the Listening to World Music class; this week it's pygmy music. I figure it'll be Baka Beyond, and such-like. They've already mentioned Herbie Hancock's Watermelon Man, and how it came from a style of the pygmies, and then a Madonna song whose name I've already forgotten that she admits was stimulated by Hancock's work. Cross-pollination.

I had no idea that Madonna would be the type to be inspired by Herbie. I am now curious as to which of her songs was inspired, since much of her work is mostly a collaboration of sorts, not to mention flat these days. No offense to Madonna, but as an adult, I just find her stuff repetitive. Herbie, on the other hand...
