I was close to finishing a couple of books, yesterday, and I did so.

First was In a Sunburned Country, by Bryson (can't recall the given name, oh well). Nice travel book about Australia. Clearly, the author likes it there. Well worth reading.

Second was Osprey Raid #14: The Los Banos Prison Camp Raid: The Philippines 1945. Now, US forces had captured a POW camp from the Japanese earlier in the war with what amounts to special forces, but in this case, a civilian internment camp was taken by paratroopers in a quickly planned attack with several different forces from several different commands all attacking from separate directions in a coordinated manner. The only reason this didn't get much notice in the US was because it happened on the day that US Marines raised the flag at Iwo Jima. Very good documentation. Good read.

Yeah, I thought that was his first name, but I was too lazy to look.

I finished two books recently as well.

Proof of Heaven, Dr. Eben Alexander, about his near-death experience and how it persuaded this neurosurgeon that the afterlife is real and beautiful.I liked this.

Eat, Pray, Love, Elizabeth Gilbert, autobiography by of a divorced writer's recovery from depression; interesting, but ending a bit too "Pretty Woman" for my taste.

I should probably add that I'm in a book club that is for women only and that reads primarily spiritually oriented books.

I think I heard a piece with the author of the first book on NPR a few weeks ago. I'm glad you liked it.
