I was too exhausted by the time I got home last night to consider going out to the movies. However, my beloved had been exposed to Prime Suspect with Helen Mirren, and she directed me to watch season one. Very worthwhile.

Among the week's irritants about which I can post is that the external hard drive for my desktop computer failed. I'm 95% sure that everything is backed up, but it's convinced me that it's time to shift completely to my laptop. Some software, primarily game software, isn't usable by the newer computer; the desktop's video card is better. Pity.

The laptop I bought for the office isn't yet loaded with the work software, but I have hopes of being able to use it next week. I hope.

I've watched up through Season 5 of Prime Suspect (there are 7 seasons); we've been taking a break from it because Season 5 ended a bit too much like a wannabe conventional Hollywood thriller for our taste.

I note that the longest gaps between Prime Suspect's seasons (or "series," I guess, given the terminology of UK TV shows) was between Seasons 5 and 6; I seem to recall reading that Helen Mirren was afraid of being typecast and wanted a break from playing Tennison after Season 5. (And yet here she is, playing a secret agent, assassin, or whatever, in the two Red movies. Go figure.)

On another note, Prime Suspect Season 5 (1996) was obviously what got Steven Mackintosh ("The Street") his role as one of the lowlifes (Winston) in Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels (1998).

Just saw Red 2; very amusing, especially Mirren.
