First was An Exaltation of Home and Family by James Lipton, who wrote An Exhaltation of Larks which book I read years ago which was a list of venery, i.e. groups of things, typically animals. That book was very interesting, and I'd recommend it. This book invents venery for a variety of things, attempting to be amusing. It left me cold.
The second book was Osprey New Vanguard #72: Austrian Napoleonic Artillery 1792 – 1815, a pretty technical one. There's some artwork, some photos, but lots of tables of data about the weapons. I found it a bit too technical for much enjoyment.
So, not one of my better days of reading fun, I'm afraid.
