Mike Resnick is an author from whom I've read a number of novels and short stories, and a few non-fiction. Much of that work is SF in nature. However, apparently several years back, he wrote a hard-boiled detective story about a missing show dog, called Dog in the Manger. It was reprinted recently by another company, and I picked it up and read it. Nice twists, and unexpected turns kept it interesting. He's written much more recently another novel with the same protagonist, and I've queued that one up; there's more to come next year apparently. Good stuff.
