We spent over sixteen hours yesterday involved in the Dark Carnival at The Vortex with the Knights of Motley, putting on a Halloween Carnival. To prep for the show we had to make several stops on the way, for example to pick up the Striker equipment as well as hay bales and ice. We got to the venue early and opened it to kids, of which we actually got a few, and they left smiling which was a splendid way to start the day. Much of the day was involved in getting the last touches done on the Midway of the Carnival and then we opened. For the first half hour we had a total of three people enter the venue, but then the floodgates cracked and the fun really began.

Having helped run booths in high school, been a ticket seller at sporting events at the Colisseum in the 70s, and acted as a part of the UCLA Mardi Gras event all four years in college, this brought to mind much fun that I had in my youth (such as manipulating balloons!!!), and it was good to see so many people enjoying themselves. I expect that when we have similar events in the future, we'll have to be much more attentive to the bottom line, though. Still, lots of fun!

(Speak, or forever hold your peace)
