Dead Dog Cat

Oddments surround us

You know, looking into the sky is a real fine way to see the oddest things. Especially noisy things...

A few days ago, I was in a hospital parking lot opening my car door when I heard an odd honking sound. It sounded like it was getting closer, and I swung around in the direction of the noise. Flying overhead were a pair of Canada geese, tooling around the skies near LA, as if there were no aircraft around to bother them (like, for instance, Ontario (CA) Airport. I watched them until they passed out of sight, loving every minute of it.

Yesterday, once again in a hospital parking lot, but at a different hospital, I heard a loud thundering noise. Glaring off into the distance, I was stunned to see a B-17 bomber flying at a rather low level over the cities of Pomona and Claremont, CA. Why? What the heck is an obsolete, ancient WWII bomber doing overhead? It is a 4 propellor engined monster, and loud as hell. I can't imagine what it must have sounded like in WWII when hundreds of them, surrounded by long-range fighters and under attack by German fighters from the ground below must have sounded like. Clearly, it must have been frightening. I wonder if there is an airshow this weekend at the Chino Airport (where they do have an air museum...and now that I think of it, I know that they do have airshows there, and they usually are at the same time as the RenFaire... and the Crossroads Renaissance Faire has started in the last two weekends....hmmmmm).

Wonder what I'll see next.

Some time ago, my spouse and I saw the ISS (International Space Station) pass right over our house a couple hours after dark. forestcats reported that she could see the extended solar panels on the thing, bare-eyed. I was just excited to track the little light over our heads.

Lots of cool stuff up there..........
