...and another book done...

Just finished today a very interesting non-fiction book "Salt: A World History" by Mark Kurlansky. This book starts with the physiology of salt and it's need by animals the world over, and from there goes on to the human pursuit of salt throughout history. The story is very interesting, and the material is going to be very useful in the near future in my RPG. For example, in ancient and medieval history, a nation that is buying up salt is generally planning combat operations, as it is using the salt to preserve foodstuffs for use by its armed forces. I liked this book and I intend to read more by this author (already in the stack are Cod, and a book about the world and the Basques).

As a birthday gift to me, forestcats forceread Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix so that I could finally start to read it; however, it is much too large for me to carry with me around work, and so it will have to be read only on those rare occasions when I'm actually at home and awake....

Dumped another novel after finishing that non-fiction book.

This one was called The Man Who Cast Two Shadows by Carol O'Connell; I tried to read it, really I did, but I couldn't even finish the first chapter. Oh, well, off to the used book store............
