First, the book:

Finished Sharyn McCrumb's book Ghost Riders yesterday; I've really been enjoying her most recent works; they seem better researched, and they have more emotional content. I especially appreciated what was said about quilts, considering forestcats penchant for production of same. I'd recommend this one, especially to those with an interest in the American Civil War.

axelicious, and Liz came over last night; we ate a delicious meal prepared by forestcats, watched most of the Opening Ceremonies of the Athens Olympic Games, and then axelicious and I played some Champions of Norrath on his PS2, which he kindly brought with him. They stayed over, as we are all going to go to the Laguna Arts Festival Pagaent of the Masters tonight. However, I have to work today, first.

In other book news, I tried starting two other books after finishing the McCrumb novel, but dumped them quickly. The first was a new Star Wars novel, call Medstar I: Battle Surgeons, and this one finally convinced me that the Star Wars saga isn't for me in written form anymore. The other dropped book, Eagle Against the Stars by Steve White, lost me almost immediately based on the repressive backstory. I'm going to try to read the books sent to me from Britain by mrsmartian, starting with A Son of War. We'll see how they turn out. I believe there's two more gifts from England to read after that one; an embarrassment of riches!

brushette is snoozing at my feet while I'm posting. Too bad she hasn't posted much recently, isn't it?

Forgot to mention that we're forging ahead (through the miracle of NetFlix) on watching Band of Brothers on DVD. We finished the fourth of the DVDs the night before last, and are recovering from the emotional impact. I found myself fuming about the incompetent officer that "led" the men of Easy Company in an attack on a town in wintertime; the instructions he gave his troopers were ridiculous. I know it's all history, now, but still....
