us two in Chicago

(no subject)

What a day yesterday was.

I mean, the house was invaded with a dozen and a half folks, friendly, chatty, jammed into our den, in a feeding frenzy.

The food was all excellent, were it made by forestcats or by one of our other friends. Such fantastic dishes! I even contributed a dish; fairly easy to make, especially if you have the right gear:

I took pecans; blanched them in boiling water for a couple of minutes, then drained them; put 2 cups water, 1 cup sugar, 3 (heaping) tablespoons of honey, excessive amounts of star anise, and stick cinnamon in a saucepan, then heated to a simmer, boiled the nuts in this syrup for 10 minutes, then set them in a warmed oven to dry (supposed to be 2 hours, but we needed the oven space, so it was only about 90 minutes). Then, in a deep fryer set at 360 degrees, fried them, a few at a time, and set them out to cool. Oh, yum plus!

Earlier this week, I read Lucifer #56; quite good.

Off to Loscon in a little while.
