cartoon me

A few ruminations

First, I've forgotten to mention that a couple of weeks back that I watched a DVD lately released from the Roughnecks series of computer animated cartoons. This one was stimulated by Robert Heinlein's book Starship Trooper, and the series were more true to the book than the movies of the same name. Not bad, this latest one, but it clearly is compiled from bits and pieces, rather than having a proper storyline.

Last night, forestcats and I watched something a bit less than high quality. A Disney film from 1980, Midnight Madness, I missed it due to the duties of medical school at the time. I've never seen it as a VHS tape, but I noticed that Netflix had it available, and I ordered it, pushing it to the top of the queue. Why, you might ask. Well, the writers, co-producers, directors, and the song writer were a couple of guys that I had gone to junior high school, high school, and college with. They managed to persuade Disney, not only to let them work up this film, but they managed to talk them into letting the two of them co-direct, something not done in Hollywood back then. The film isn't all that good, as were most Disney films of the time, but it was interesting recognizing various things (names, places, archetypes) that they put into the piece. One of the fellows still directs TV shows; I have no idea what happened to the other. It was very cool seeing it, finally, after all these years, though I can't really recommend it to anyone. (forestcats thinks that one of the key characters is me, just a bit modified around the edges).

Read a comic book this AM prior to work; a new one, called Samurai: Heaven and Earth #1. I like the artwork, and I like the storyline that they've started out.

and on and on and on...
