A meme

Where were you when...

1. When John F. Kennedy was shot? (11/22/1963)

Jerstad-Agerholm Elementary School in Racine, Wisconsin; the principal came on the speaker system to announce that the President of the United States had been shot.

2. When Mt. St. Helens blew? (5/18/1980)

Chicago Osteopathic Medical School.

3. When the space shuttle Challenger exploded? (1/28/1986)

Preparing to go to work...it was my last winter in Chicago before moving to California.

4. When the 7.1 earthquake hit San Francisco? (10/7/1989)

Watching something on TV while living in Whittier, California.

5. When the Berlin Wall fell? (11/7/1989)

In bed in Whittier.

5.5. When the Gulf War ACTUALLY began? (August 1990—not in original meme)

Working. In La Habra, California.

6. When the Gulf War began? (1/16/1991)

See above.

7. When OJ Simpson was chased in his White Bronco? (6/17/1994)

This, I felt, was so unimportant that I've long since dropped it from my memory.

8. When the building in Oklahoma City was bombed? (4/19/1995)

Still working in La Habra.

9. When Princess Di was killed (8/31/1997)

I was in the Con Suite at the World Science Fiction Convention in San Francisco, California; we were getting ready to pack up and head home.

10. When Bush was first announced President (11/7/2000)

I paid little attention to that, as it seemed to me to be bad if one, and worse if the other got chosen.

11. When the 6.8 earthquake hit Nisqually, WA (2/28/2001)

Huh? Well, at that point, I would have been working in the Inland Empire, and probably not really very aware of purely local matters up north.

12. When terrorists knocked over the World Trade Center (9/11/2001)

I was logged onto AOL at our home in Montclair, California; a friend called and told us to turn on TV as a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center.

13. When OIF began (take your pick- the presidential announcement of the expiration of the 48-hour ultimatum was at 10:15 PM EST on 3/19/03, the ground war commenced at 8 PM EST on 3/20/03).

Work, work, work.

Managed to work my way through three comics yesterday:

The first was Shaolin Cowboy #3. I find this one a bit opaque, and yet intriguing. I see the writer taking the whole thing a bit tongue-in-cheek.

The second was Papa Midnite #5, the last of the series. You know, I felt it started out well, but I found myself very dissatisfied with it in the end.

The third was Neverwhere #1. This is the comic based on the novel by Neil Gaiman, which was also done as a BBC TV series. The book, I liked. The show was a typical BBC, lack of funding piece-of-crap. This comic, though, suggests to me that Gaiman does a fine job of writing in a style that is easily modified to the comic book format. This is to be a 9-issue series, and I think it will be very good.

In other news, forestcats and I watched another disk of season 3 of Gilmore Girls which was amusing. There's more wit to be found on this disk, and I continue to enjoy the shows. One more disk to finish the season.

Worse to say, one of my associates is going on vacation tomorrow, so I will remain oncall through Friday. Oy.
