Dead Dog Cat

Bridget's birthday

Embarassingly enough, we got a call yesterday that postpones the birthday bash at Portillo's by one day. For those who expressed the intention of participating, instead of Saturday the 14th at 6:30 PM, the party will be on Sunday the 15th at 6:30 PM. Please acknowledge the change, and let me know if you can attend; otherwise, I will try to call those who notified me. *Sigh*

A busy weekend; I did manage to listen to episode 7 of the BBC radio version of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and also read a number of comics, as I catch up:

First, there was The Book of Lost Souls #2 and 3, both of which I found almost lyrical. Looks to be a fine series.

Next was Rising Stars: Voices of the Dead #6, the last of the series. Disappointing, I'm afraid.

Then Supreme Power: Nighthawk #5 of 6; violent and gorey. Hmm.

Then Down #3, by Warren Ellis. We're seeing some evidence of character change, and I'm finding the crime boss as depicted as a possible good guy. Very interesting.

And then, I really finally got going in catching up with Hunter: The Age of Magic reading issues #7, 8, 9, 10, and 11. Very interesting; again, I wonder why Vertigo hasn't put these out as graphic novels yet?

I'm oncall for about another 24 hours; can't wait to get done with it already. I could use the uninterupted sleep.

We've become regulars at a local all-you-can-eat sushi bar, where surprisingly the quality is quite high. They've become the hangout for a lot of local youth, and it seems that the police and fire folks from the nearby municipalities have taken to the place. I always have a good feeling about a place where the waitress has gotten to know you enough to immediately know what your favorite potable to imbibe is.

...and on to the workday...

Could it be age? Or fatigue? In any case, I forgot to mention a couple of things in all these posts the last couple of days.

On the one hand, I forgot to mention that the wedding party in Maui went on a sunset cruise in the waters between Maui and Lanai on New Year's Eve before the party at the house. Food was far from spectacular. That was where forestcats and I saw the "green flash" as the sun set. Other than that, it was a forgettable trip.

On the other, I forgot, in this morning's posts, to mention that forestcats and I watched a Netflix DVD of Cyrano de Bergerac, a 1950 version of the story, done in florid style, B&W, with excellent fencing. Pretty good, all-in-all.
