Dead Dog Cat

(no subject)

After another day of work, but not, thank the Lord, oncall, I wandered down to the wood carving class. I finished the carving on my staff, and next week I'll be staining/sealing/whatevering it. It feels good. The instructor had had some pruning done on trees in his yard, and he gave me a crooked staff to work with, and after some discussion with him, I've started on trying to make something vaguely resembling a dragon's head on it. We'll see how that goes.

Before sleep last night, forestcats and I finished the last of our Edwardo's pizzas from Chicago, and we polished off a bottle of Yellowtail Shiraz. See, I'm offcall, I can drink alcoholic beverages like a big boy...

After dinner, and House, we watched two more episodes of Wonderfalls. I'm convinced that the show was worth seeing, but the series isn't worth buying...thank goodness we have Netflix for that.

I've been memed!

This is how it works:
Comment on this entry and you'll receive a letter from me!
Write ten words beginning with that letter, including an explanation of what the word means to you and why.

My letter is "M"

1.Mouser - a word that means a cat who is very good as a hunter. The Gray Mouser was a character in a number of Fritz Leiber tales which I read many years ago. It was also the given name of a 3-day-old kitten abandoned on the streets of Chicago, long ago, rescued by forestcats, and lived with us for many, many years. My heart breaks to hear "Mouser".

2.Magic - a card game that was complex, and very amusing, with collectible aspects that added to its luster. I gave it up, and made some money on the sale of my collection. Thank goodness. I liked Magic.

3.Minnesota - a state in the far north of this country. My mother is from Minnesota. Thank goodness for Minnesota, too.

4.Marlboro - their commercials gives dearest_b something to drool over. I don't like having to treat people who like Marlboros. Aside from the fact that they stink, it angers me that they have caused themselves so much harm.

5.Meat - yummy. I don't like the vegetarian diet. I also don't only eat meat. But I like it very much.

6.Moon - has a lot of connotations. First is my favorite book: The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, by Robert Heinlein. Another is the fact that the first Apollo mission to land on the Moon was on my Bar Mitzvah, which gives me weird feelings about both topics. Another is that I really like reading books by Elizabeth Moon. All-in-all, Moon is a good thing.

7.Marquis - I wrote a number of gaming items in the late 70s, and early 80s, and since most of them were Traveller-related, I came to the attention of Marc Miller, who wrote the original rules. He was giving out patents of nobility, inside the Traveller universe, to those who had done such things, including writing stories, gaming materials, and articles. Mine was as a Marquis. *sigh*

8.Mountain - I look out our back windows, or out the windows of my office, and that's what I see. When they aren't obscured by smog, they are wonderful to gaze upon. They are a good thing.

9.Metamucil - I don't need it yet, thank goodness.

10.Marriage - keeps me in health and happiness. I couldn't have a better spouse. Marriage is a good thing.

Finished another fairly interesting book this morning, this one being The Greedy Bastard Diary: A Comic Tour of America by Eric Idle. It's ruminations by the author as he travels from venue to venue on the tour. He covers some personal history, some philosophy, some travelogue, and some comic bits. It reads well, and in some areas, was far more than just amusing.

Saw that my least favorite on Top Chef was finally deep-sixed, and good riddance.

Too fatigued to say much more just now.
