Dead Dog Cat

I was watching Anthony Bourdain's show last night (No Reservations), and he visited Sweden.

Now, he usually goes into various odd foodstuffs, and here he ate reindeer, but having eaten reindeer, I wasn't too bothered by that.

What I found interesting was that he defined an integral part of the Swedish mindset. Lagom.

Now, this term meant nothing to me until seeing this show. I've heard things about Sweden in the past, such as rich people being taxed nearly (or over) 100% of their taxable income, and thought, "How strange", but never really understood it.

The term lagom apparently means, not too much, not too little, just enough.

It came up a couple of times in the show, but most interestingly, he heard it discussed by a motorcycle gang (called "Stubborn"), where they described it as a Viking tradition, in which things are given out mostly evenly, such as passing around a horn of mead, and drinking a bit, and passing it on.

This makes the Swedish Socialist government much more understandable to me.

Isn't Travel broadening?

So, finally, Castro has passed the reins of Cuba on to his brother.

I have family who were forced to abandon everything that they'd built in Cuba in the 50s, and while some of them have done well in Miami, others have just gotten by.

I wonder if this is the last we'll see of Communism in this hemisphere? Will Cuba shake off the Castros, or will things remain the same?

Oh, yes, and I've been trying to forget a wasted 9 minutes or so from last night.

Used the DVR to capture a movie off HBO (Human Bowel Offal?), which not only didn't get my attention, but caused a violent desire to dump, this being Garden State. So long, the DVR is cleared of the item.
