Last night, the woodcarving class was strangely empty; it was just the instructor and I. I spent some time sharpening a tool or two, while he worked on one of my gouges, and we chatted about wood-related activities. Then, he pulled out some oddly shaped wood pieces that were intended to be used to make a carved case for one of my better carving knives, and I started on it. Somehow, I just wasn't in the mood for working on the dragon-headed walking stick that I've been struggling with for months. I also walked away with a really neat cedar stick for a future carving. Not a bad night, in the end.
