We cleared the decks, as it were, for Netflix, by watching last night the new film (rather than the 60s film) Casino Royale. I'd been hearing good things about the film: that it was the best Bond in years; possibly the best Bond ever; that it was too long, etc.

My take is that it needed a bit of tightening up, but the film did the best characterization of Bond that I've ever seen. He's more believeable, and less a superman with the super powers of luck and coincidence. This Bond works hard, and gets hurt, both physically and emotionally. They also didn't beat certain old chestnuts in the series to death, such as the Q issue.

All in all, it is indeed one of the best of the Bond films. I would have liked to see Timothy Dalton or Sean Connery playing the role in this much better-written script, though this fellow did just fine...

We just finished watching another Netflix disk that arrived today, this one being another of the Cadfael ones: The Potter's Field. I really don't like the person they have playing the sheriff; I preferred the first fellow...
