Dead Dog Cat

(no subject)

Busy, busy, busy yesterday.

Finally got home after nine-thirty; I didn't even have time to go to the woodcarving class.

About a year and a half ago, I offered up my emergency room coverage dates at a major local hospital to another doctor; my previous employer was unhappy that I was having so many patients there that had no insurance and for whom we were being paid nothing, or minimally. She instructed me to divest myself of the responsibility. The doctor accepting it was delighted, as he didn't have the financial prejudice of my former employer, and in exchange, he gave me all of his nursing home practice, not that it was much. Having changed jobs, I considered taking back the coverage, but decided to leave things as they were. It turns out that it was a good idea; the fellow ran into me at the hospital that I've just recently joined, and in a burst of joy and delight, asked me if I would cover all his patients there in exchange for the work I'd given him at the large emergency room. When I agreed, he immediately transferred three new patients to me, nearly doubling the number of cases we have there.

This, of course, is delightful. But it did mean nearly three hours of additional work for me last night. Less today.

And the beat goes on...
