Dead Dog Cat

After the day's work, forestcats and I were relaxing at the house when she got a call from jenergy1 saying that she was in the area, and would we mind a visit. 'Course we wouldn't mind. We spent a couple of hours with her, chatting, and sharing the critters.

Then, it was off to get a bite to eat; due to the masses of people out and about at the restaurant row at Montclair Plaza Shopping Center, we gravitated to Applebee's, as it had the most empty parking lot. Even so, folks were stacked up waiting for tables. My beloved asked if we could be served dinner at the bar: we could. It turns out that the bartender was a kid who we had seen around I'm Comics, a shop in Whittier that we used to frequent, back when we lived there. Kevin Pruitt, our friend who once worked there, and who is now a real estate agent up in the High Desert, had been his Boy Scout troopleader. I swear, I could hear the song It's a Small World playing in the background...

Yesterday morning, I had only twelve pages left to read, and so I finished The House of Crows by Paul Harding (actually Paul Doherty's pseudonym, for those keeping track), a murder mystery set in Parliament in about 1380. Again, a good read, a good length, and I found the descriptions of the culture and times to be engaging.
