Wireless modem crashed last night, and we're stealing bandwidth right now from an open wireless signal nearby. Thanks, whoever you are. Before I go (unexpectedly) to work this morning, I'll have to go see about replacing it. *Sigh*.

That meant, of course, that we couldn't stream via Netflix, last night, so we tried to watch a Netflix disc that had been ordered on spec: The Legend of Zorro with A. Banderas. It was so bad that we dumped it five minutes in.

OTOH, I pulled out another Netflix disc which was the last one of season four of ST:DS9, and the episodes were actually pretty damn good. The special features, not so much.

I did manage to find enough time to read this week's comic book acquisitions. First was Warren Ellis' Supergod #4 which continues to be pretty good. I'm looking forward to seeing where he goes with this saga of clashes between genetically modified people of different nations. Then I read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? #13 which apparently continues the novel in comic book form, and I still find worth reading.

Another of my "gift" books arrived yesterday, and I read Osprey Elite #179: Pike and Shot Tactics 1590 - 1660, a book about the feats of arms during a transitional period as new weaponry was introduced. Mildly interesting.

I've pondered getting and reading some of the swarm of Osprey Elite books that deal with WWII tactics, but I find myself thus far more interested in the more ancient forms. Silly me, I guess...

OK, I'm really weirded out from something today:

I was driving from one hospital to another, the latter in Pomona, CA, when I saw a fellow standing with a small group of people on a street corner in a residential area. Suddenly, a non-descript, dark-colored sedan darted onto the street, with a guy hanging out the passenger window. The young man actually dove head-first over a three-foot fence, and got to his feet, and ran, zig-zagging.

I saw no gun, but it looks like I just witnessed an attempted driveby shooting...

Oy!

So, last week at this time, forestcats and I were at Del Mar Racetrack with the family, celebrating my mother's birthday. At one point, while we were awaiting my aunt and uncle's arrival, I was crowd-watching, and I saw a woman, dressed to the nines in a black dress and hat, wearing orange pumps and jewelry. I was astonished to see, as she ascended a circular staircase, that she was walking up, leaving her heel off the stairstep! Who knew???

Nine days ago. I was at one of the long-term acute care hospitals that we use, in a fairly blue collar neighborhood of the Inland Empire, and I was walking along in my doctor coat behind three rather scruffy, unwashed men. They paid no attention to me, and apparently had no idea how loudly they were actually speaking.

I paid them little attention until one of them said: "I stole a car once where the back seat was filled with dildos! When I saw that, I dumped the car and ran. I mean, what if I got caught? I didn't want to get caught with all that in the car? What would the guys say?"

What indeed?
