Dead Dog Cat

(no subject)

Busy though yesterday was, I had rather well-advanced in reading a couple of books on my ereader, and so I managed to finish two.

First was Osprey Campaign #220: Operation Crusader 1941: Rommel in Retreat which was a pretty fair rendering of the WWII event.

Second was Osprey Raid #9: Rescuing Mussolini: Gran Sasso 1943, another WWII event, though this one was more political than military; it deals with the German raid to pull out Mussolini from the "treasonous" captivity when Italy surrendered to the Allies. The later fighting up the peninsula was primarily against German forces. This raid set a tone for special forces use that one could argue leads to the killing of Osama bin Laden...

Before I left for the day's work, yesterday, I finished reading the other comic book of last week, Mystery in Space #1, which was very much like reading a pulp SF magazine of the 30s or 40s, except that there was no prose, but comic strips instead. Many of the ideas used in the book were familiar; set up an SF scenario, build in a twist, and run with it. I was amused with a couple of the stories, but not all, and most of the artwork put me off. I doubt I'll follow it up, if more issues are expected.

I was busy at the office, which is always nice, and in the evening, I had two admissions to nursing homes (both somewhat complicated), so I got home moderately late. I ate some leftover this, and tasteless that, and I was happy to see my spouse's return from her quilt club. We cleared a couple things from the DVR, and then I crashed into bed.

Looks like one of my email accounts has been hacked (AOL, of course), so I'll have to work on that later today...SIGH.
