Dead Dog Cat

The lads are back with their family; it's quieter here, and the dogs are pleased with that.

I've a cough. Probably a touch of bronchitis. Possibly viral.

I've started the pre-course videos for the Coursera Fantasy and Science Fiction class. Tomorrow, it and the World Music class start. Have I bitten off more than I should chew?

Today is Mom's birthday; we'll be off to see her in a couple of hours.

Over the last couple of days, we've watched 21 Up and 28 Up. Curious. I gather that the filmmaker's expectations were dashed, honestly. There's three more films from this series on Netflix, and my British readers tell me that 56 Up has already shown there in May; not out on video yet. I find it a rather interesting documentary, but very different than the American experience. I wonder how this plays in Canada? Australia? South Africa?

Yesterday, I finally finished reading The Invasion Year by Dewey Lambdin, another Napoleonic era naval adventure novel. It's good, the whole series is very readable, but I've let a number of other books slide in front of it. I pushed to finish it the last week or so because the newest book by this author came up in my queue, and I still hadn't finished this one. It brings the protagonist into the English Channel to participate in actions intended to dissuade Napoleon from trying his luck in amphibious operations into England. Good read.
