Dead Dog Cat

I'm really plowing through the Osprey books this month!

This time, it was Osprey New Vanguard #135: Imperial Japanese Navy Submarines 1941 – 45. The Japanese Navy of WWII didn't use their submarines in nearly as significant effect as the US Navy did. Though there were some victories on their part, they were wasted on picket duties for the fleet, and resupply missions for cut off garrisons. Some good photos and illustrations, as you'd expect in an Osprey book.

The other night, we finished watching House of Cards, the latest only-on-Netflix-streaming series. It's set in Washington, DC; Kevin Spacey plays the majority Whip in the House of Representatives, and he's manipulating events for his own gain. Thirteen episodes, and it's left open so that they might revisit it if it's well-received ('course, so was the other series, Lillehamer (sp?), but they haven't returned to that yet). I've never watched The West Wing, so I don't have that to compare it to, but as a standalone, I found it engaging, and made me want to take a shower after watching it. I shall cast no stones at members of Congress, but I wouldn't find it too unexpected that some or many of them might have this kind of cunning and ambition. I think the show is worth a watch.
