Dead Dog Cat

(no subject)

Our anniversary day was...a bit of a surprise, in certain ways.

Let's start with my workday.

Essentially, things just wouldn't fall into place properly.

Housecall was WAY OUT on the periphery of where I'm willing to drive, and there were...questions that had to be addressed, which took time.

Then I had to go to the opposite side of the area I cover for hospital rounds and admissions, and it took about three times the amount of time I'd hoped for.

Then, office hours were twice as long as I would have hoped for, followed by yet another hospital.

So, in the end, our anniversary date started more than two hours later than I'd wanted it to do.

Once home, we piled into forestcats' truck, and drove down to Truck Squad in Fullerton for dinner and hanging out. I had food from Lobsta Truck (they were out of lobster bisque, but the clam chowder was very tasty), The Grilled Cheese Truck (Roast Brie Sandwich with roast beef and some really sweet and spicy chiles in it), and Slummin' Gourmet. Two of them are among our favorite food trucks, and one is one of the first food trucks we ever hunted down and tried. My beloved also had her fill of several other trucks that were present; we essentially closed the place.

While we hung out there, I overheard a few people talking about an earthquake that we hadn't felt; about a 3.6. I paid no attention.

Once we were finished there, we got back in the truck and started driving east on Imperial Highway. A few blocks down, the truck shook violently down and up, and we could see all the streetlights ahead of us shaking and blinking on and off. We could also see the pavement rippling like a sheet being shook out atop a bed. Using my iPhone, I quickly got the first reports of a 5.4 quake epicentered 2km east of La other words right underneath us! OK, so they later downgraded it (they often do once they start getting data from all the other seismographs), but it was quite a ride for us nonetheless.

We hurried home to find our dogs and equines very disturbed, while the cats seemed to have taken it in stride. A small number of things were knocked off shelves, but there is a weight-bearing post that may need to be worked on. We'll hunt up a handyman or carpenter straightaway.

So how's that for having a rocking anniversary?
