On that long drive to Calabasas yesterday, I finally finished reading The Evolution of Fantasy Role-Playing Games, an item which reads vaguely like someone's Ph.D. thesis. For starters, the author was born only a very short time before D&D was initially published. Then, he attempts to write authoritatively about a large number of game systems and types, but left me with the impression that all or most of what he discusses are only the games he'd played, leaving out many types. I think he meant well, but I wasn't impressed with the research.
Or is this a "YOU KIDS GET OFF MY LAWN" sort of thing?
