I got home from work as early as I could manage, and forestcats and I raced out of the house to drive to Hollywood, and promptly ran into a traffic jam: three fire vehicles, two ambulances and then to top it off a helicopter landing in the middle of the freeway. Tied us up for nearly an hour.

Why were we out so fast?

We had tickets to the Hollywood Bowl, there to meet friends that we rarely see, as well as my sister Andi and her husband, and my mother, too! Picnic was planned, but even if we'd hadn't been stuck on the Pomona Freeway, I could never have made it. Work kept me too late.

As it was, we missed half of the first portion; the LA Philharmonic was doing a medley of heroic movie pieces. Once we found everybody, my mother immediately tried to make us eat/drink the stuff she'd brought with her. Following intermission, out came Steve Martin with banjo, and with him were the Steep Canyon Rangers and Edie Brickell. Terrific music, and Martin had some pretty funny patter.

This was my first ever event at the Hollywood Bowl; quite a venue...

Oh, and my associate, back from his vacation, agreed to cover call while I was at the show; I've now been off call for about three hours. Thank ghod.
