After the pandemonium of Jeremy Clarkson being kicked off the BBC TV show Top Gear, I remembered that I had a couple of his books stockpiled in the to-be-read stack, and so I pulled out one from the 90s to read. Yesterday, I finished reading Clarkson On Cars, a compilation of some of his rants. Pretty funny, for the most part, and grumpy too. An amusing read, though the material on specific cars are a bit out-of-date.
I have a couple of his rant-y books. I haven't read it yet but I hope he and James and Richard get another show. There was talk that they were meeting with Netflix. If they get something else that would be heavenly.
Indeed. I usually doze through their paeans to individual cars, but I love it when they do some of their witless stunts.
I love when they get extreme challenges - biking through Vietnam, or finding the source of the Nile or building amphibious cars.
Especially when the latter sink.
Especially when all their plans fail.
I'm a former colonial. It must still be in the blood. hehehehe
Although, based on how our Government is sinking our economy with it's corruption and crony ism I wouldn't mind being a 'current' colony again. At least I'd have a better option to leave.
I'm under the impression that Jamaica has taken over the world, what with the music, the food, the rum and the bobsled team...
Haha, we're working on our world domination in the areas we can. I think if our Government was a little less selfish we could do more. But alas, the corruption is strong.
Where I live in California, I have a friend and his wife who are Jamaican. And no longer under the selfish government.
Yeah, my Dad lives in Florida but some of us aren't so lucky.
As long as you don't have an earthquake or a hurricane, life is good, no?
That's a very simplistic way of looking at it.
We have high inflation, high cost of living, expensive education, expensive health care, too much importation, not enough exportation, and a very crappy dollar value. It all adds up to very uncomfortable living sometimes (most times for some people in lower incomes). Plus, right now there is a drought so there are major water restrictions.
Our entire state is in a state of drought that's been going on for some years, but water use restrictions have been imposed this year. The county I live in has one of the highest unemployment rates in the US. Or to put it another way, it's tough all over. Pity...
You understand. That's why I say it's too simplistic a view to take.
Depends on whether or not you want to be optimistic or realistic. Joy.
Optimistic is difficult when realistic keeps slapping you in the face but I like to think there is a little nugget of optimism in every realism, otherwise it was just be defeatism.
Were it not for optimism, there would be no progress.
You forgot our sports teams. :D
