I'd heard good things about a documentary called Deli Man, and it came out on DVD this month. So I pushed it to the top of the Netflix queue, and we played the disc a couple of nights ago. Brilliant work. It deals with the history, culture, and the present of the Jewish deli restaurants and does it very well. I'd highly recommend it.

Thank you for the rec! I have netflix but haven't heard of that one. Netflix has some fabulous documentaries. We just watched "The Search for General Tso" there, which starts off being about the origins of one ubiquitous dish but is really a history of Chinese food (and chinese american culture) in the US over the last century.

That one is on our to-be-streamed list. Deli Man is newly released on DVD only. Enjoy!

I completely understand patience in these cases.

It reminds me of the olden days; a movie would show up on TV a year after it played in theaters...

Chopped to bits to allow for the commercials, the swear words badly re-dubbed (as if we couldn't tell) and reframed to fit the tv screen. Good times.
