Saturday we had a houseguest; sekl came to visit with plans, and she and my wife went to work on them. The two of them drove up to Big Bear to a dog breeder's home, so that sekl could pick out a puppy. I had to run in to work, so I didn't go. While they worked their way back to the house, I then continued with the theme of Sylvester Stallone, and watched via Netflix streaming his second movie in the trilogy that I'd never seen before, Rambo: First Blood 2. The first movie was better.
When the ladies returned with the puppy, named Abby, our own dogs were bemused. corveys took it the best, though the pup freaked out by his size. brushette was outraged that we would dare bring an interloper into HER house, though she never assaulted the wee girl. The cats and Abby got on sufficiently peacefully that we had no concerns in that arena. Politics aside, the remainder of the evening went swimmingly; pup and sekl were soon exhausted and off to bed they toddled.
The next day was the long-awaited party for my mother's eightieth birthday. It had been postponed so that all of her grandchildren could attend. We got to Mom's early, but not as early as my sisters, or the caterers did. Still, we were able to help out with the pre-party preparations. Then at the appointed hour, Mom's invited friends and family gathered. It was hot out, and so we had our fun. One of my sisters emceed, I gave a toast to my Dad, may he rest in peace, and my other sister sang several parody songs in Mom's honor. Folks seemed to have a good time, and hopefully so did Mom.
On our way back home we stopped at a newly opened store called Off Kilter Kilts; it's a new venture by one of our friends. I perused the wares, and actually found one that I liked, so I got it. I expect to wear it regularly to Dungeonmaster where it ought to be quite fitting.
I have to admit that with all that done, I'm pretty tuckered out and I have a good day's work ahead of me. *Sigh*.
