And we finish 2015 with a couple more tidbits.

First, I forgot to mention feeling the quake of two nights ago; it was a 4.4 on the Richter scale which basically means mild damage close to the epicenter. I heard some items swaying in the kitchen, and felt the floor undulate, but that was about it. I think the epicenter was about fifteen miles away. Much closer to my office than it was to the house. If you ever take a look at the US Geological Survey maps of SoCal that deal with recent earthquakes you'd see that we get them constantly, but they're usually barely notable by the temblor sensors. OTOH, worldwide there's major quakes nearly daily, it's just that most of them happen way out at sea where nobody feels them.

Also, leaving for work yesterday I noted four police vehicles within three houses of us on both sides of the street. It turns out that the night before last, two homes were burgled, one of which is generally unoccupied as the family spends most of their time up north for work, and comes home for a weekend every now and then. This has led to increased police presence locally, including a police cruiser prowling the horse trails out back at midnight, and hassling my wife while she walked our dogs last night. Closing the barn door after the horse has escaped. Still, it sucks that folks were targeted...
