Thursday was my wife's birthday, and I got off work early to do some grocery shopping; fresh ingredients for a homecooked meal that I produced.

First dish was a spinach salad with a dressing made from scratch. My beloved loves spinach salad, so what could be better. Dressing was good, but I put too much red onion on it. New recipe, what can I say.

Entree was stir-fried chicken with garlic. Forgot to put in red pepper flakes, but ground black pepper at the table did just fine. It's been a very long time since I last used the wok; I reseasoned it without any trouble. I forgot to use the lid initially, or it would have been cooked in about a third less time, but still, not bad.

Dessert was baked apples. I followed the recommended oven setting, but I think I should have set it a tick up. Still, the flavors were there.

In the end, not bad. I'd never made the first and last dishes before, and I think I can do them again but a bit better.

The best part? The smile on forestcats face.

And I even ran the dishwasher loads, and cleaned the counters...
