So much keeping me busy! I had little time to read what with one thing or another, so this week's post includes only Osprey Elite #44: Security Forces in Northern Ireland 1969 – 92 which dovetails nicely with that Simon Winchester book I read late last year. The book pays minimal attention to the history per se, but does go into the equipage of British and Irish forces involved in the events. Not bad.

One of my co-workers at a previous job was born in Birmingham, England to a family with at least partial Irish Catholic ancestry (he himself was Catholic). After university he did a stint with the British Army and was assigned to patrol the countryside in Northern Ireland. He took a round to the chest during a surprise raid on a house one day - fortunately his bulletproof vest saved him. He had a lot of problems with a good chunk of his family over his service there.
