The sky was full of oddities over the weekend, probably due to the NASCAR meet at the California Speedway. The first two occurences were on Saturday. I was driving eastbound on Fourth, and in the distance I saw some items fluttering in the sky. At first I thought it was parachutes, landing in the Speedway, but as I got closer, I realized that there were about nine aircraft towing banners, orbiting around the Speedway. The second oddity occured while I was driving southbound on Campus, with Ontario Airport to my south. Four F-18s took off, and banked at a rather low altitude, probably, once again, en route to a flyover the Speedway. Then, last night, when I was squelching my way to the feed stall after dark to give the equines an evening snack, a helicopter flew overhead, not more than 150 feet high; what was particularly engaging was watching its blinking lights reflecting from below on the rotors. Gorgeous.
