I did manage to get finished with one of the library books, yesterday, which was Vanilla: The Cultural History of the World's Favorite Flavor and Fragrance by Patricia Rain. It was a fairly simple discussion of the plant's natural history, geography, and economics thereof; there's also a lot of space devoted to recipes in there. A pretty good overview.
