Earlier today, I finished an Allen Steele novel, called The Tranquillity Alternative, which is an alternate history novel of the end of the Cold War, and the divestiture of America's moonbase and the destruction of its nuclear weapons in a world that isn't all that different from the one we live in. Fast read; something of a technothriller, rather than science fiction, in that the world they postulate is loaded with things familiar, and things planned but never executed. It's a good read.
