Years and years ago, forestcats and I discovered a nice new restaurant that served tasty breadsticks and salad with every meal, and had good tasty Italian dishes. We were very impressed, and would drive a not inconsiderable distance to eat there. The place? Olive Garden.
Over the years, we've moved, and we now live in between two of these restaurants; they're no longer far away at all, in fact, one of them is only a block away from the grocery store where we normally do most of our shopping. However, nowadays, the salad flavors are muted, the breadsticks are no longer fresh, and they put far less flavor enhancement on them, and the menu is simplified, and the food tastes, well, bad.
Last night, instead of driving an extra couple of miles to the family-run Italian place that we presently favor, forestcats chose Olive Garden, and neither one of us was the least bit impressed.
It's sad how the quality there has suffered, as the chain has grown larger, and is now owned by a different corporate structure than it was, back in the day.
I really doubt that we're going back to them, ever again.
