I've thought for a long time now that different generations are permitted to go back and reinterpret entertainment from the past, to try to elicit new meanings from the shows. This goes as much for Hamlet as it does for, say, Battlestar Galactica. Sometimes it falls on its face, like, say Godzilla did a few years back, or Dino DeLaurentis' (sp?) King Kong in the 70s. Other times, it can be brilliant, like the new Star Trek. But I find that many people complain, each time such things are remade, as if there's always somebody out there to defend the old "classics". I figure that anything is fair game for remakes.
